Page 4. I read this as a poem and immediately want to pare down the over-elaborate to English translation. I've spent many hours with original Tang poetry and so appreciate and aim for directness.  Episode 78 – On the hills of Manchuria – Real Russian Club A very useful site I think.  Take for instance third line first verse ie  Тучей закрыт восток. 'cloud closes east'.  Thats an interesting word,  восток ....  Pron. 'vostok' as in English is for east, being born in 1958 its as familiar as soyuz for union, laika for barker (RIP little doggie hero) and  Семёрка ,  semyorka for rockets ie 'old no.3' as I've just found out today. All are 'space words' or programmes from the Russians. I apologise for the military angle to this material, merely words heard fifty and sixty years ago.  Thats certainly say two months minimum of writing and memorisation; or probably longer, I'm no genius at this game.   Here we are set to music, beautiful re...
Page 3. Its clicked in my beginners journey into learning Russian at home, these last couple of days it is the original Ruski text I now prefer in getting closer to the original sound. In other words I skip the supplied English translation. Ruski directly gets you closer to the real sound.  Удачи вам в изучении русского языка. In these early days it doesn't really matter what your translation work is, just get stuck in!  Read Ruski!
Page 2.  Замучен тяжёлой неволей, As mentioned on page 1 here is an old Russian tune, its important I paste all my learning material on this blog otherwise it will simply get lost, but also in this digital form I can copy and paste wherever I like.  For instance I've just found context.reverso.net and is a useful adjunct to google translate Point of this exercise is for us beginners to memorise the first verse.   Please note as I develop and gain ability I hope to go back over this older material and check for mistakes, at the moment at my beginner level it may well hold errors. But it doesn't really matter at this stage, all that matters is that you get in the practice, give it some hard slog. As they say, paint in broad strokes.  Замучен тяжелой неволей, Ты славною смертью почил... В борьбе за народное дело Ты голову честно сложил... 2 раза Which if we pop over to goog translate we get not only the phonetics but also a translation ... Tormented by heavy ...
Page 1. I am selfish, I am doing this admittedly to house my Ruski learning material separate from my own desktop m/c and I'm thinking but why not share it, hence this blog! This so far seems to be an exercise in teaching ones self but then again thats how life works usually. If my twenty year Mandarin experience is anything to go by then in a few years hence I will know many tricks and traits that can be employed to illuminate the path forward for others, to shed light upon the subject, to bring it alive. But however in these first tentative steps as self taught each nugget of information and technique is hard earned.  I've had twenty years with Mandarin and maybe twenty months ago stumbled on the incredible old song ''Zamuchin ... etc'' which the tune of it is incorporated into the Shostakovich String Quartet no.8 a tune which I've known fr a full decade at least but only recently realised its importance. Much here will be copy 'n paste jobs t...
